What Is Ultrasound?
Ultrasound is a medical procedure that uses a device called a transducer to produce high frequency sound waves that travel into the body. These sound waves work along with a computer (ultrasound machine) to produce images of organs, tissues, or blood-flow inside the body. All of these images together in one file, is called a sonogram. A professional that specializes in producing sonograms is called a sonographer.

What Is Seen With Ultrasound?
Ultrasound is a medical exam used to determine the presence of abnormalities in the liver, kidneys, breasts, female reproductive system, and even the heart. Ultrasound is also used to locate blood clots and poor circulation areas in the arms and legs.

Ultrasound As A Career
According to a National Salary and Benefit Survey, the median salary for a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer is $62,000. Registered Sonographers may make a great living working full-time, contract, or even part-time if they so choose. Sonographers may choose to work in hospitals, clinics, or private practices. They may also choose to own their own ultrasound equipment, allowing them to have their very own sonography service!
